The best school campus designs in Shanghai and Shenzhen are on display at an exhibition at the Shanghai Urban Space Art Season 2021.
An architecture exhibition kicked off in the Xinhua community in downtown Changning District on Monday to explain how schools can fit into a “15-minute community life circle.”
As part of the 2021 Shanghai Urban Space Arts Season, the exhibition, titled “Towards a New Campus,” is being held at the Xinhua Community School at 453 Fahuazhen Road.
Visitors are invited to view the exhibit while indulging in the many activities offered by the community relating to all walks of life.
A community must provide abundant resources for students and encourage citizens to learn in all phases of life, according to one of the proposals of the biennial art season.
The Xinhua Community School has classrooms for children and retirees, a library, a science center, and a theater. Citizens can learn professional or baking skills as well as listen to various lectures.
The exhibition titled “A New School in the Community” selected more than a dozen outstanding campus projects in Shanghai and Shenzhen, in the south of Guangdong Province.

At the opening forum Sunday, Zhou Hongmei, who launched a “new campus activities” campaign in Shenzhen, shared the city’s strategy of inviting top architects to design or renovate campuses for students. these last years.
Shenzhen’s growing population and a limited number of schools have resulted in a large amount of simply designed campus buildings and cramped classrooms.
Zhou launched the campaign in 2017 to invite master architects such as Zhang Yonghe, former head of the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States, to rethink elementary and middle schools.
“The practice has been found to be helpful for the mental health of students and the quality of education,” Zhou said at the forum hosted by LeTalwork.
Some local examples of campus renovations are also presented at the exhibition. The Eastern China University of Political Science and Law, for example, has completed the major renovation of the former Panyu College, which dates back to the 1950s.
The small campus within the Xinhua community has become a model school in Changning with modern facilities and an emphasis on moral education of students, said Gong Haixing, vice president of the school.
